The September AAPA bundle contained an abundance of material -- 11 different pieces showing the creativity of members. The following really caught my eye...
Best art project: Marey Barthoff's commemoration of the 88th anniversary of our organization's founding, with a colorful slice of birthday cake. Thanks for putting us in a celebratory mood!
Best journal: Anonymous Quarterly by Clarence Wolfshohl. This eight page "Supplemental Edition" starts off with another celebration of AAPA's anniversary, but quickly moves on to poetry, baseball, and a history of the relationship between the United States (particularly Texas) and the Philippines.
Best short story: "The Necklace" by Steve Ingram in Mini Zine #8 uses a found object to imagine what it might have meant as a symbol of friendship and hope.
Best letterpress project: Mark McComas's Spud War is colorful, well printed, and humorous.
There was a lot to choose from in the September bundle. Be sure to make your own picks and send a note of appreciation to the creator. That's the only "pay" they receive.
Amateur journalism is a unique activity. Amateur journalists publish journals on paper & online & come from many perspectives: from deluxe letterpress printed journals, to Xeroxed newsletters, to artistically designed cards and ephemera. We embrace the spirit of being amateurs – loving what we do for pure joy and not financial gain – while creating top quality journals, zines, and homemade publications.
