Picks From a Thick January Bundle

Picks from a thick January bundle

January's bundle was a nice, thick one, with plenty to choose from for this month's picks.

Journal: Ink Zone by Greg McKelvey. Greg gives us two contrasting issues in the January bundle. In #206 he pairs skillful photos of Canyon Lake, Arizona, with knowledgable commentary that taps into his background as a geologist. Issue #208 is his personal description of what it is like to be an octogenarian, concluding, "I do hope our wisdom and counsel will be sought or considered. We have considerable to contribute."

Project: "Christmas 2023" by John Carvalho. In order to read the low-contrast light silver ink I held the paper up to the light -- and then saw the amazing watermark John had built into his handmade "fancy watermarked old t-shirt paper." John also includes an interesting story and beautiful artwork in this amazing project.

Art: The Mareyland Register by Marey Barthoff. Her cartoon "The Secret Purpose of Art" brings a smile.

Letterpress Printing: Danny Kelly's "Happy New Year 2024" is simple but nicely printed in two colors.
