The AAPA is on Substack!
Who: Us!
What: Substack is an online platform that functions as both a blog and a hybrid social media. Many of the users of Substack are more serious about their writing and journalism than other “platforms”. Substack is versatile and we are able to post long-form content such as essays, articles, stories, and more. Audio may be embedded within the posts. Visuals such as .jpegs may also be included in postings. In short, an entire journal may be posted using the Substack format.
When: Now!
Where: Subscribe to https://wearetheaapa.substack.com – send content for posting to email address vp@aapainfo.org
Why: This is a great way to reach out to other folks who love journalism and small press endeavors. There are poets, artists, zine makers, and writers of all backgrounds who regularly post on Substack and explore other people’s work via Substack. I am using it to generate interest among folks who may never hear about the AAPA otherwise.
Three decades into the digital age, amateur journalism continues to thrive – yet we need to use all of the tools at our disposal to get the word out to potential members. We’re on the cusp of a century as an organization, and we’ve survived by adapting to new techniques and technologies available to amateur journalists. Let’s keep moving forward!
-- AAPA Vice President Fred Moe
Amateur journalism is a unique activity. Amateur journalists publish journals on paper & online & come from many perspectives: from deluxe letterpress printed journals, to Xeroxed newsletters, to artistically designed cards and ephemera. We embrace the spirit of being amateurs – loving what we do for pure joy and not financial gain – while creating top quality journals, zines, and homemade publications.
